An image from Panicale in Umbria, Italy. Amazingly, this really does function in part as a roundabout but also as a road light. It is there to stop people crossing the lines on the junction as it is quite a dangerous road, a very busy junction, and people tend to cut the corner. I particularly like the fact that the little roundabout has a beautifully made wall, in keeping with the building behind, and has been planted. The street light is large (presumably to stop people driving into this tiny roundabout). On the wall behind you can see directional siges for Perugia, Tavernelle etc and also some wooden notice boards with signs for theatre productions and local events.
