The Quiraing on the Isle of Skye in black and white by ErwinFloor-Photography

Dark clouds hang over the Quiraing, in the north of the Scottish island of Skye. Light streams through a gap in the clouds onto the slopes, whilst the cliffs and rocky outcrops remain in shadow. At the bottom, a narrow road winds its way along the ridge, and to the left lie two small lakes reflecting the light from the sky.

The Quiraing is one of Scotland’s most remarkable landscapes. It is a massive landslide that has been shifting very slowly for thousands of years. This is how the steep faces, isolated rock peaks and hidden plateaus that you see here were formed. The road between Staffin and Uig climbs right through this area, and from the top you look out over lochs, mountain ridges and, on clear days, as far as the mountains of the Scottish mainland.

In black and white, the layers of the landscape really come to the fore: threatening clouds, sunlight on the grass, rock and water. Thanks to its wide format, this photograph looks lovely above a sofa, in a dining room or in an office. It is best to choose a size of 60 x 90 cm or larger, so that the road and the small lakes remain clearly visible. The grey tones and the cloudy sky are shown to their best advantage on aluminium or behind acrylic glass.
