The goldfinch originally occurs along the sunny edges of moist deciduous forests. Not so long ago, goldfinches began to adapt to man-made landscapes such as orchards and parks. The most important condition for the presence of goldfinches is rich vegetation with many composites (thistles, dandelions). These plants produce the seeds on which the goldfinch is almost entirely dependent. Only the young also get lots of insects during their growth. These contain the proteins that are so important for growth.
