Watercolor of a peacock.
Pauwen (Pavo) is a genus of medium-sized fowl birds, whose rooster is characterized by a long tail. More than 4000 years ago the peacock reached Europe via Mesopotamia. They were originally kept in parks and gardens for their beauty, but soon roast peacock became a culinary status symbol.
