It is winter in Torres del Paine Paine national park in Patagonia in southern Chile. I have been standing in the twilight cold for an hour by a small lake with the snow-capped Paine mountain range reflecting in the water of the lake in the background to photograph the sunrise. There are no other people and apart from the sound of a light breeze, it is dead quiet. it seems like I am alone in the world in this overwhelming landscape. Then my wait is rewarded and the sun rises. A magnificent sunrise is my portion. One of those special moments I will remember for the rest of my life.
The photo is a straightforward panorama composed of 6 different standing shots, taken from a tripod. Working quickly is necessary because the light changes quickly, approximations that can soon become visible when you compose the panorama later at home. I chose a 2x1 panorama format here because I think the grand landscape comes out better in this format.
