About "The Mirror Queen"

About the artwork

In the middle of a dark, mystically sparkling lake, a young woman stands in water up to her waist. Her robe shimmers like liquid metal, as if it were not made of fabric but moulded from moonlight. In her left hand she holds a dead fish made of silver - exposed, skeletonised, a symbol of the ephemeral. In her right hand, she carries a ceremonial compass that points not to the north, but inwards.

Behind her, reeds flicker like torches and a night sky, dotted with golden stars, rises above the lake. But the real mystery lies beneath the surface of the water: her reflection shows a second woman - the same, yet completely different. This woman is not only reflected in her appearance, but also in her expression. She wears a crown of light and smiles, almost mockingly, as if she knows a secret that remains hidden from her above-ground self.

Above: Control, stillness, clarity.
Below: Power, seduction, truth?

The production is a psychological puzzle - an allegory of the hidden self that only reveals itself in the dark. The Mirror Queen asks questions: Who are you when no one is watching? What remains when the light goes out?

This painting is a meditation on duality - between surface and depth, reason and instinct, reality and myth. The Queen of Mirrors is not enthroned on a throne, but on the water of our own insecurities. And she looks back.
