Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.

About ‘The London Eye from a different perspective’ by Stephan Scheffer

The London Eye is a Ferris wheel in London, England. The wheel is 135 metres high, has a diameter of 120 metres, weighs 1,700 tonnes and has 32 enclosed capsules.

The London Eye was built in 1998 and was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel when it opened. Since then, several other Ferris wheels have surpassed the London Eye in height. Since March 2020, the Ain Dubai in Dubai has been the tallest Ferris wheel (250 metres).

The wheel is situated in London on the south bank of the River Thames, opposite the Palace of Westminster. The London Eye was commissioned by British Airways to mark the turn of the millennium, celebrated at the start of the year 2000, and is therefore also known as the Millennium Wheel. Due to technical problems, the wheel did not open to the public until later that year. A ride on the Ferris wheel lasts 30 minutes (one full rotation, average speed: 0.26 m/s) and offers sweeping views of London and the surrounding countryside. The wheel turns so slowly that it does not need to be stopped whilst passengers board or alight. To see the wheel turning from the ground, one must stand completely still. From the top, on a clear day, you can see seven counties, three airports, thirteen football stadiums and 36 bridges over the Thames. The London Eye is the fourth-tallest structure in London whose summit is accessible, and completes approximately 6,000 revolutions a year.
