Lijnbaansgracht is a partially filled-in canal that runs from Reguliersgracht(pictured) around the city centre to Brouwersgracht.
The Lijnbaansgracht is named after the rope makers' lanes, which, because it required a lot of space, were located on the then outskirts of the city. The canal was dug after the first stages of the construction of the ring of canals began in 1612.
