Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

About ‘The Horse of Marken’ by Costas Ganasos

The Horse of Marken is Marken's lighthouse. Designed by J. Valk and built in 1839, the current lighthouse stands on the eastern tip of the island. The tower has a light height of 16 metres and a light range of 16.7 km, having started life as a square lighthouse in 1700. This was one of three lighthouses at Marken, De Ven and Durgerdam decided in 1699 to mark the route from the Wadden Sea to Amsterdam. The towers were equipped with oil lamps according to Jan van der Heyden's design. In 1839, the square stone tower was replaced by a round iron one on the old foundation. Later, a brick building with a dwelling and storeroom were added to the lighthouse, which gave the tower its characteristic shape. In 1814, the tower received a fog bell. In 1919, the fog bell was replaced by a fog horn. Regularly, the lighthouse suffers from creeping ice. In 1971, this was so bad that the tower was pushed several centimetres from its place. The lighthouse is currently occupied and has held national monument status since 1970.
