The Gornergratbahn in Zermatt is an electrically operated cogwheel railway up the Gornergrat in the Monte Rosa region of Switzerland and is the second highest mountain railway in Europe after the Jungfrau Railway. It
leads from Zermatt at 3089 metres above sea level to the Gornergrat.
The Gornergrat is an excursion destination that offers a panoramic view of Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn.
4478 metres high, striking and unmistakable, perfectly shaped like an Egyptian pyramid, it stands there at the end of the Mattertal valley in the middle of the Valais Alps: the Matterhorn. With the first ascent in 1865, the "Matterhorn myth" was born and quickly travelled around the world.
The Matterhorn - the mountain of mountains. The most photographed mountain in the world. Myth and emblem for alpinists and photographers. The landmark and symbol of Switzerland.
