Two greylag geese at sunrise over a small lake (the Wittsee) just across the border in Germany. The sun was just rising and the light was orange-gold. This is a place I visit more often and preferably around sunrise, when the birds start flying over the water.
I followed this pair with my camera as they flew through the beautiful light. I had set the shutter speed to 1/10s so that there were dynamics in the image. Indeed, my aim was to capture the essence of the birds, by capturing their movement. Focus was an afterthought for me at that point.
Suddenly they curved off, I held them in the viewfinder but in the process made an extra movement with my camera that turned the two geese into ballet dancers. Goose Lake was a reality.
This image touches many people and it has also scored well in a number of nature photography competitions. Not only because of the dynamics and warm tones but especially because of the pair in the same pose, exuding a "together" that everyone needs especially in these times.
