About ‘The Golden Kiss of Delft’ by Karin van Bylevelt

This opulent and culturally hybrid artwork is a unique fusion of Gustav Klimt's Art Nouveau style and the tradition of Delftware ceramics. The composition shows the face of a woman with closed eyes, surrounded by swirling, stylised motifs executed in delicate blue tones and rich, shiny gold. On the left, the male figure from Klimt's The Kiss is abstracted into a mosaic of blue, gold and black patterns. The woman wears a headpiece decorated with gold and blue floral motifs, giving it a regal look.

My inspiration lay in creating a dialogue between luxurious Viennese Secession and Dutch craft. The cool blue tones of the porcelain contrast beautifully with the warmth and texture of the gold leaf. The work is elegant, mystical and rich in detail.

The atmosphere is one of luxury, cultural depth and timeless beauty. This is a visually stunning piece that operates at the interface of classical art and decorative design.
