About ‘Temple @ Bangkok, Thailand’ by Travel Tips and Stories

This is the magnificent main assembly hall (Phra Viharn) of Wat Suthat Thepwararam in Bangkok.

Architectural features
The Roof: The temple displays a classic Rattanakosin style with overlapping roof layers. The roof is covered with green and orange glazed tiles and finished with ornate, gold-coloured chofah (the bird-like ornaments on the roof ridges).
The Chinese Pagodas: Directly in front of the white-plastered columns, the hexagonal stone pagodas catch the eye. A total of 28 of these miniature Chinese pagodas stand around this building. They symbolise the 28 Buddhas who, according to Buddhist scriptures, were born on earth.
Ballast: These stone pagodas and the surrounding statues arrived in Thailand in the 19th century as ballast on board Chinese trading ships.
