Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. A city I love to visit, and of course always with my camera gear. Around the corner from our hotel is the Taipei 101, once, albeit very briefly, the tallest building in the world. Inside is a luxury shopping mall, and at the very top is an observation centre.
On this day, I had planned to walk around the building, looking for a nice angle to take some architectural photos. Armed with my camera and a 12mm wide-angle lens, I kept my gaze mostly upwards. I was looking for an interesting interplay of lines, and eventually I found this spot. I could do something with this.
The diagonal lines leading to the top of the imposing building were exactly what I had in mind. After several shots, I walked back to the hotel. There I made a first selection so that I could continue working at home to make the images perfect for your wall.
For this photo, I chose a monochrome edit with deep grey tones. This way, the viewer is not distracted by the bright colours of daylight, and all attention remains on the powerful shapes and lines of the building.
