A tender and serene painting of two girls standing close together, whispering something into each other's ears. A handmade artwork in which abstract painting, soft colours and tactile textures come together.
Sweet Little Lies is one of my most cherished paintings. The original hangs prominently in the hallway of our home and holds a very special personal meaning for me. When I look at the two girls, I see myself and my older sister. It takes me back to our childhood, when we shared secrets, made up stories and whispered little innocent lies into each other's ears.
The title Sweet Little Lies is therefore not about deception, but rather about the imagination, playfulness and sense of familiarity we shared growing up.
Abstract figurative art with soft colours and rich textures
The painting depicts two girls with their heads close together. Their faces remain largely hidden, drawing attention to their posture and the special bond between them. The figurative shapes are simple and subtly defined, blending naturally into the abstract background.
The colour palette consists of powder pink, dusty rose, soft white, cream and muted grey tones, with delicate accents of fuchsia, ochre yellow, dark red and blue. These understated colours give the artwork a gentle, almost dreamlike appearance.
The original painting was created entirely by hand using acrylic paint and mixed media on linen canvas. The striking relief textures, thick layers of paint, scratches and irregular lines give the artwork a distinctly tactile quality. Light interacts with the various textures, revealing new details across the surface. This tangible layering is an essential part of the abstract painting style.
A personal artwork about sisters, childhood and connection
For me, this painting is above all about the special bond between sisters. About growing up together, keeping secrets and creating memories that last a lifetime. A warm and personal artwork that invites you to look back on your own childhood.
