About "Supporting The Fun"

About the artwork

This is a photograph of a section of the metal support structure that holds up Eastbourne Pier in Sussex, UK. Eastbourne Pier is a pleasure pier that is a Grade II* listed building. It was opened in the late 1870 s and has had its fair share of excitement - other than those provided by the fairground and entertainment on the pier that is.

During the Second World War, machine guns were installed on it as part of preparations to repel any enemy landing. There have also been several fires. And thousands upon thousands of people have walked on the decks of this 1000ft (300 metres) long pier over the years.

Underneath it all, supporting the fun, is this wonderful structure of strong metal work. The metal supports underpinning the pier rest in metal cups on the seabed which allows the whole structure to move during rough weather.

The day I took this picture, it was bright and sunny and the pier was full of people sitting on deckchairs and eating icecream. Underneath the pier, this wonderful architecture was peaceful, almost serene, sitting in the shade enduring the gentle lap of the waves, oblivious to the people above.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
