Magome is a centuries-old postal city in the Kiso Valley. During the Edo-priode it was an important route that connected Tokyo with Kyoto. The city has been beautifully restored with a wide street and on both sides old wooden houses and picturesque waterwheels. The nearby town of Tsumago is just as authentic. The two cities are connected by the Magome-Tsumago Trail, one of the most famous hiking trails in Japan.
