Sunset at Miyajima
Japan is the land of the torii, the red gates that indicate the entrance to a temple. Often you can make a distinction between Buddhist and Shinto temples. The torii indicates that you are entering the sacred.
This torii stands for Itsukushima in the water. Although the island is officially called Itsukushima, it is mainly called Miyajima, shrine island. The entire island is considered sacred and is strewn with Shinto shrines. Not only Shinto, by the way, there is also a large Buddhist temple.
Although Itsukushima is close to Hiroshima, it has not been damaged by the atomic bomb at the end of the Second World War.
