A beautiful sunrise over the River Kwai in Thailand. This river is both famous and infamous for the bridge built across the river during World War II by prisoners of War and forced labourers, led by Japan. More than 100,00 are estimated to have died in the construction of this "Railway of Death". What a contrast to the serene calm that now reigns over the river. By the palm trees in the background, you can tell that this shot must have been taken somewhere in the tropics. The water is sleek, with a single ripple across the river. The reflection of the trees complete the picture. This photo was taken during our very first (but certainly not the last) trip to Asia, during Christmas 2023.
