A 1:1 square photo and the first light of the day appears at 05:15 over a fens in the Dwingelderveld National Park, Western Europe's largest wet heathland area. Located in the Dutch province of Drenthe, in the Dwingeloo, Ruinen and Beilen triangle.
Wet lowlands and high sand ridges alternate in the vast Dwingelderveld. You will find heathland, woods, juniper bushes, shifting sands and over forty fens. Some of these fens originated in the ice age, others are the result of peat excavation.
This part is called Holtveen, near Kraloo.
