a day in March on the moors with a shepherd, a shepherd with a flock of sheep on a day in spring in March. Cornelis Van Leemputten (Werchter, 25 January 1841 - Schaarbeek, 23 November 1902) was a Belgian painter specialising in depicting sheep and fowl, both indoors and outdoors.
He was basically a self-taught painter who drew inspiration from nature and the works of Anton Mauve, a painter from the Hague School, and the French cattle painter Charles Jacque. He moved with his parents to Saint-Josse-ten-Noode in 1852. He returned to Werchter for a short time but then settled in Schaarbeek. He worked mainly in Brabant and the Kempen region.
