Sundew (Drosera) is a carnivorous plant. The sundew lures, catches and digests insects by a glistening, sticky substance on its tentacles. The prey serves to provide the plant with nutrients that are virtually absent in the soil where the plants live. Most sundew species live in marshy areas.
In the West, sundew has a reputation mainly as a cough suppressant plant. The spasmolytic and mucosal soothing effects that sundew has make the plant particularly suitable to use in cases of a convulsive cough.
