Stresa landing stage on Lake Maggiore - Italy by Jasper van de Gein Photography

On beautiful Lake Maggiore, near the town of Stresa, this jetty was photographed on a beautiful summer evening.Stresa lies on Lake Maggiore and offers views of all three Borromean Islands. The promenade with its hotels is a draw for tourists, as is the old, typically Italian centre. Just outside Stresa is the cable car to the Mottarone, a 1491-metre-high mountain with views of Lake Maggiore, Lago d'Orta and Monte Rosa at the top. On a clear day, the view reaches as far as Milan. Lake Maggiore is a lake in the border region of Italy and Switzerland. It is also called Lago Verbano in Italian, from Lacus Verbanus, the ancient Roman name. The Swiss part is located in the canton of Ticino. The western shore of the Italian part is in the Piedmont region, the eastern shore in Lombardy. The lake is 212 km² in size, 60 km long and up to 10 km wide. The northern part lies in the Alps, the southern part in the hilly country that forms the transition between the Alps and the Po Valley. The surface of the lake is 193 m above sea level. The lake is up to 372 m deep, 179 m below sea level. In both Italy and Switzerland, the lake lies in Italian-speaking areas, and well-known towns along the lake include Locarno, Ascona, Verbania, Luino and Stresa. The river Ticino flows into the lake in the north and leaves it again in the south to eventually flow into the Po. Other rivers that flow into Lake Maggio
