Monterosso Al Mare is one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre in Italy. This nature reserve is located on the coast near the city of La Spezia in the Liguria region. The Cinque Terre has been a popular tourist destination for years, and it can be very crowded during summer and weekends.
For many people, Monterosso is the starting point for a scenic walk to Vernazza. Vernazza is known as the most beautiful village of the Cinque Terre but Monterosso is also a pretty village with narrow streets and squares and a beautiful beach.
After taking the train from La Spezia to Monterosso, we had a coffee overlooking the coast. Then we walked to Vernazzo where we had lunch and finally we walked on to Corniglia, the only village not directly on the coast but on a hill. A beautiful day in an extraordinary region.
