In many cultures they symbolise nobility, dignity and beauty, while in Christian ceremonies they are regularly used to indicate purity, kindness and endurance. In early spring, the flowers appear before the leaves and the flowers are seen as renewal, as a kind of rebirth of nature.
The flowers are surprising and highly aromatic. The scent comes from the thick waxy petals, which, among other things, exude a citrus-like air, also reminiscent of violets and roses.
