Jacob Marrel (1614-1681) was a German painter working in the Netherlands. His specialty was "portraits" of flowering tulips. Tulip bulbs were fanatically collected in 17th-century Holland; sometimes staggering prices were paid for a single bulb. Tulips also play a leading role in this painting.
In the year 2020 I made this version, this time without the dead frog and on a different background.
Because I added shadows, the painting seems to have depth.
The stylists at Art Heroes call my art style ‘Art with a Wink’. And I couldn't agree more. Life is serious enough as it is, don't you think? ;-)
