Castle Staverden is located on the Staverdenseweg in Staverden (municipality of Ermelo), in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The house and the park by the house are owned by Geldersch Landschap and Kasteelen and are open to the public.
The current castle, now the fourth, was built partly in 1853 and partly in 1905 and contains seventeenth-century elements and was built on the foundations of the previous castle, dating from the eighteenth century. The rooms on the ground floor are decorated with Art Nouveau motifs. No remains of the medieval castle are visible above ground level.
Since the renovation of 2008 the orangery is a brasserie and the gardener's house is a (rented) house. Until the bankruptcy of the private owner, parties could be held in the castle and in the coach house. After the sale of the castle this is only possible in the Brasserie/orangerie and on the terrace.
Near the castle there is a watermill. The mill was used as a corn mill for many years. There was a project to generate electricity but that was not economically feasible. In 2014 a new wheel has been placed. This upper mill is located at the entrance and can be seen from close by.
