Panoramic view of the old bridge, the main attraction of the city.
Stari Most is a bridge over the river Neretva, the bridge has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.
In 1993, the bridge was destroyed during the Balkan war. In Mostar, heavy fighting broke out between troops of the Bosnian government army and the Bosnian Croats of the Croatian Republic of Herceg-Bosna.
The reconstruction of the stone bridge started in 2001 under the supervision of UNESCO. The renovation cost almost 13 million euros. For the rebuilding, as much as possible use was made of the original stones that were removed from the river. The engineers also had to study old building methods in order to reconstruct the new bridge as original as possible.
