I love coming to Texel. At least once a year I visit this beautiful Wadden island to enjoy the landscapes, coastlines, local products and the cosiness in the villages. On Texel, many villages and communities take part in the Meierblis every year. The Meierblis is a bonfire that is usually lit on 30 April and is similar to the Easter fires. On this evening, several fires can be viewed which are spread across Texel. A few years ago, I visited a Meierblis near De Cocksdorp. I put my camera on the ground and shot this interesting composition with a strong depth-of-field effect, where in the foreground some pebbles are lit red by the fire. On the left in the centre of the image, four friends stand by the fire enjoying the warmth while in the centre of the image one of the youngsters throws some more on the fire. This Meierblis was quite large. The smoke of the Meierblis was beautifully lit by the fire, showing nice colour transition from orange to dark blue to the total darkness of the night.
