In the heart of London City is this extraordinary place: the ruins of the church of St Dunstan -in-the-East. The original church was built in the 13th century and dedicated to the Archbishop of Canterbury.
It was extensively remodelled in 1633 and was considered one of the largest churches in London at the time.
However, large parts including the tower were damaged in the Great Fire of London.
It was rebuilt by 1701 and the tower has survived a tornado and even the attacks of the Second World War to this day. The nave, however, remained in ruins.
In 1967, the City of London decided to turn the site into a park and commissioned landscapers to redesign it. They subsequently received the Landscape Heritage Award for their work - and rightly so!
Today, the park is used as a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city and as a peaceful oasis from the hectic pace of everyday life. Sometimes open-air fairs are also held there.
