The black line is a space-filling curve running from top left to top right. This curve is of type SquaRecurve with size 21, and discovered by Douglas McKenna. Each segment of the curve is the side of a square. The red squares lie to the right of the curve, and the blue squares lie to the left of the curve. The generator of the curve has 21 * 21 segments, and thus 441 squares. The figure was created by running the second iteration of the curve, with 441 * 441 = 194481 squares.
