The wild garlic (Allium ursinum) is a plant of the daffodil family (Amaryllidaceae). It is a fairly common species in Belgium and the Netherlands and has remained the same or increased since 1950.
The oval leaves are 3-5 cm wide, dark green and parallel-nerved.
The flowers have six white petals and are grouped in loose spherical umbels. The plant flowers from April to June, sometimes until July. After July, the above ground part of the plant disappears completely and only the underground flower bulb remains. The plant is 30-40 cm high. The plant often grows in groups. The flower contains six stamens and a three-part pistil. These are surrounded by six broad oval petals. The seeds are black brown.
