Canyon de Chelly is located in the territory of the Navajo Nation in the northeast of the US state of Arizona. The nearest town at the western end of the canyon is Chinle.
Spider Rock - two about 240 meters high rock spires are the landmark of the Canyon de Chelly. In Navajo mythology the crests are the home of the Spider Woman. According to the tribal myths she taught people the art of weaving and is still worshipped for it today, but she is also said to devour small disobedient children.
