About "Speulderbos"

About the artwork

The Speulder- en Sprielderbos (Speulder and Sprielderbos) forest is an approximately 3,300 hectare large contiguous forest area in the northwest of the Dutch region the Veluwe, east of Putten.

The area is located in the northwest of the Veluwe, east of Putten in the municipalities Putten (Sprielderbos) and Ermelo (Speulderbos). It is part of the Natura 2000 area of the Veluwe protected by European regulations. The area extends roughly between the road between Putten and Garderen in the south to the village of Garderen and the Houtdorperveld, the hamlet of Speuld and the Ermelo heath in the east and north. The size of the area is approximately 3,300 hectares. Of this, about 300 hectares of the Speulderbos, especially in the vicinity of the hamlet Drie, consists of trees that seem to dance through their capricious shape. The Speulderbos is popularly referred to as the 'forest of dancing trees'.

The Speulder- and Sprielderbos is quite rich in food, so a lot of big game can live there, such as red deer and wild boar. Because of the high wilderness pressure, the foresters sometimes fence plots where they want to make natural rejuvenation of the forest possible. Other species in this area are the badger, tree marten and smooth snake. Existing birds of prey are the hawk and wasp thief. Behind game viewing screens it is possible to observe animals.
