Special train to Pankow – U2 line – black and white by Silva Wischeropp

This visually striking urban scene shows the popular and famous Eberswalder Straße stop on the U2 underground line in Berlin’s Pankow district.
The photograph was taken on 18 August 2023 with a NIKON D800 camera (lens: NIKKOR 24.0–70.0 mm f/2.8) in the early afternoon.
The central window view, looking out over Berlin’s residential buildings and the city centre, as well as the staircase leading down to the street, creates a sense of excitement and curiosity to discover the metropolis and its centre at Alexanderplatz.
The Eberswalder Straße underground station is an elevated station on the U2 line in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin’s Pankow borough.
It is situated on Schönhauser Allee, just past the junction of Eberswalder/Danziger Straße with Kastanien-/Pappelallee.
The station, opened by the Hochbahngesellschaft under the name Danziger Straße on 27 July 1913, was called Dimitroff-Straße from 1950 to 1990.
The station is situated on the central reservation of Schönhauser Allee and features a central platform with two exits. The southern half of the 110-metre-long platform is covered by a hall; later, the northern end was also covered with a single-support roof structure.
The hall was constructed using riveted steel and is painted green. The Nordring station (now Schönhauser Allee), the second station on the elevated railway line, features an almost identical structure.

The clear, graphic composition and the reduction of the colour palette to classic black and white lend the urban scene an elegant, timeless visual character. This monochrome photograph is therefore perfectly suited to living and working spaces.
