An early morning visit is the only way to guarantee a walk through one of the souks in Marrekesh in Morocco without having to squeeze through masses of locals and tourists or being nearly run over by motorbikes. An early visit also allowed me to catch the photograph on which this photo art is based. I am constantly looking for the interplay between light and shade and the way the light shines through the slatted roof and makes stripes on the ground and people was just breathtaking!
Another 15 minutes and this shot would have been impossible as the effect would not have been the same with lots of pedestrians.
This covered area shows shops still closed and some beginning to open, colorful wares hanging outside some of them. Traders sit talking at the beginning of their day. All of this seen through the stripes created by shadows from the latticed roof covering.
