The soft corals in Komodo National Park are renowned for their dazzling colours and immense density. Unlike hard corals, these corals do not have a rigid skeleton; instead, they sway with the powerful currents, creating a picturesque, almost fluorescent underwater landscape.

Characteristics of soft coral in Komodo
Colour palette: They come in striking neon colours, ranging from bright red and orange to soft purple and bright yellow.
Shape and structure: They often take the form of trees, fans or fingers. The polyps stand wide open in the current to catch food.
Location in the park: You’ll find them mainly at the nutrient-rich, current-filled dive sites in the north, such as Crystal Rock and Castle Rock.
Biodiversity: The colourful forests of soft coral serve as an important habitat and shelter for countless small reef fish, such as the well-known damselfish and anthias.
Travel and dive planning
