The placement of 2 pins in a tape measure created the suggestion of a snail.
The combination of gravity and wanting to roll back the tape measure creates an image that makes it appear that the snail is raising its head and looking at the viewer.
The sculpture was inspired by seeing it slowly move back to the previous shape of the tape measure, which evoked a sense of a living creature, but also of inertia.
Lighting with 1 large softbox at the back left so that the soft shadow enhances the image. The use of a soft white background makes the subject stand out nicely in different environments and keeps the image calm.
