Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘Slave houses on Bonaire’ by Brenda Verboekend

The slave houses on the dike separating Lake Pekel from the Caribbean Sea, in the south of Bonaire, are world-famous and unique. Indeed, in most places in the world, all memories of the slave era have been carefully erased.

Cultural heritage
The slave huts have been thoroughly restored to their original state by the National Parks Foundation Netherlands Antilles (Stinapa). In addition, clear information boards have been placed at the site explaining in a clear manner the history of salt mining on Bonaire. In this way, the Bonairean authorities are trying to preserve these important monuments for future generations.

Film
In 2013, a film was shot on Bonaire in which the slave houses play an important role. The film 'Kasita' tells the story of two nieces who run away from home because their grandmother does not allow them to have a dog. At one point, they think that a slave house could be a great dog house for a little dog. The film is directed by Gabri Christa.
