Roman charity, in which a woman pushes a man against his chest or breasts.
Caritas Romana (Roman Charity) is a legend about father and daughter Cimon and Pero (also called Pera) that dates back to Roman antiquity. The example was told as a model of sacrifice and filial love.
Cimon is an old man who is in prison and condemned to starve to death. His daughter Pero is allowed to visit him, but is not allowed to bring him food. She visits him daily, and breastfeeds him to keep him alive. When old Cimon is still alive after a month, the jailer checks if Pero might have brought food with him. When he finds no food, he decides to spy on them and discovers that Pero is suckling her father. The jailer reports the incident to the judges, who are so impressed by this love of children that they pardon both father and daughter.
Simon Vouet (Paris, 9 January 1590 - 30 June 1649) was a French painter. He is considered to belong to the style period of the Baroque. He went to Venice and then to Rome, where he was strongly influenced by the Caravaggisme. In 1627, Louis XIII and Cardinal de Richelieu brought Vouet back to France, where he became a court painter. His paintings, often on religious or mythical themes, are notable for their well-balanced compositions.
