I regularly take a journey to Aurillac in the Cantal and regularly pass by some stunning scenery. One day I took my camera and allowed myself some time to stop off. There is plenty that catches my eye. Non more so than the harsh light hitting the trunks of the silver birch. I love the way the vertical lines stand out against the backdrop. This photo, along with all my work, is saturated with detail, and I try to capture every detail of every branch and twig.
There is a texture added and techniques are used to give the photograph a painterly feel. The colours have been reduced slightly, adding a sense of age. Using my technique I am able to play with light and contrast, softening certain areas and strengthening others, which enables me to draw the viewers eye to a specific part of the image, very much like a painter would do. I aim to produce images that evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, and my subjects are almost always trees
