Sometimes you want to stop the world for a moment. Away from the noise, back to yourself. This painting arose from such a moment. A silent meditation moment in which I took a deep breath myself, picked up my brush and started without a plan. Only colour, only being and only feeling.
Eyes closed, face in soft focus, cheeks red with inner strength. Her fire-red hair almost pops off the canvas, but her expression remains serene. As if she is using her firepower to get quiet, not to scream. That contrast fascinated me while painting. I played with bright yellow and deep red on a bright blue background - an ode to tranquillity in colour and form. Layer by layer, I worked with acrylic, adding texture with dry brushes and finger printing. At one point, I looked at her face and felt, "yes, you are ready".
She embodies a powerful female moment of surrender. No noise, no rush. Being alone.
