About ‘Silent giants’ by Sabrina de Vries

The silence in the forest is not emptiness, but a space that closes around me like a soft cloak. At first it feels lonely, as if the world has forgotten that I exist. The mist muffles every sound, makes every thought louder, sharper, closer than I want it to be.

But the trees stand around me like ancient guardians. They say nothing, and that is their language. And as I walk on, I notice that the loneliness does not disappear, but it does change shape. It becomes lighter. It becomes bearable. Because in this forest, among these silent giants, I am never completely alone. The trees hold the space so that I can breathe again.
