The artwork shows the figure of Sibyl, one of the allegorical secondary figures of the Bismarck National Monument in Berlin's Tiergarten. The sculpture depicts a seated female figure riding on a sphinx and holding an open book in her hand. This depiction refers to the Sibyl as a seer and is interpreted in the context of the monument as an allegory of state wisdom. The surrounding vegetation lends the scene a calm, almost secluded atmosphere.
The inspiration for this work was the combination of political symbolism, classical mythology and public space. I was particularly interested in how historical narratives are conveyed through sculpture - in this case the spiritual dimension of Bismarck's work, represented by the reading Sibyl.
With this picture, I wanted to create a thoughtful, focussed mood. It invites you to think about history, power and knowledge - not out loud, but quietly and contemplatively.
In interior design, this work acts as a culturally charged accent. It is particularly suitable for rooms with a historical or intellectual reference - such as libraries, study rooms or galleries - and brings a combination of classical design language and political significance into the room.
