The Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht is originally a Dutch store, built between 1837 and 1839 and located on Oudegracht 158. The company Winkel van Sinkel started as a fabric store in Amsterdam, from which, after expansion, the first department store emerged. However, the later shop building in the city of Utrecht would really establish the name. This shop was in fact much more extensive and varied in range than the original shop in Amsterdam. Winkel van Sinkel has become a general term for shops where everything is for sale.
