The Winkel van Sinkel in Utrecht is originally a Dutch shop, built between 1837 and 1839 and located at Oudegracht 158. The company Winkel van Sinkel began as a fabric shop in Amsterdam, from which, after expansion, the first department store emerged. However, the later shop building in the city of Utrecht would really establish the name. Indeed, this shop was even more extensive and wider in range than the original shop in Amsterdam.
In Dutch, the name Winkel van Sinkel has become a general term for shops where all sorts of things can be bought.
