In the far right background is the ship USS Olympia (Cruiser no. 6) with the bright white paint and naval vessel USS Montana in the middle facing the viewer with an unknown hull in front. in the far left background are the wooden ships of the 1860s, the war floor USS Franklin, the receiving ship and the USS Richmond, which served as an aid to the receiving ship until the end of the First World War. On the far left is the USS Iowa, BB- 4, shortly before decommissioning later that year. Both pictures are credited to the National Archives Photographs of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, 1890 - 1952 series.
