Shepherd with a flock of sheep on the heathland of the Renderklippen nature reserve in the Veluwe. The Renderklippen are located between Heerde and Epe and it is a unique nature reserve where, in addition to the local flock of sheep, game such as deer and wild boar can also be found. This photo was taken on a dark, misty, early morning in winter. The photo shows the sheep grazing peacefully, the shepherd watching and also the shepherd's dog sitting contentedly watching all that is going on around him. The loneliness of the shepherd in the winter months on the deserted heathland is well shown in this photo. Shepherd and dog depend on each other to keep the flock on the right path. The photo was deliberately taken with a short telephoto lens to emphasise the flock in the vast nature reserve.
