Past Forward
The basis of this collage is an old architectural drawing.The outline of a stately palace of days gone by is visible, a place where history had folded in the green shadow of the walls. Inside the collage is a fan, the silk fabric still vibrant in colour.It had whispered at balls and secret conversations hidden behind skirts and veiled glances. In it is a portrait of a lady from the 17th century, her dress richly decorated with lace. The painter had captured her gaze as only a lover could: a hint of melancholy, an unspoken thought that had defied the centuries. Between these fragments a woman with a farewell letter, this woman here had committed her last feelings to paper, perhaps with trembling hand, perhaps with the certainty that the moment was inevitable. Musings of times gone by whispered through this collage.
