A sturdy concrete facade with lavish aluminium letters above the entrance reflect the location of the slaughterhouse, built in 1933, in an older part of Shanghai.
The building is now used as a creative meeting place with a small, austere café, but the authentic elements in several rooms of this multi-storey complex have been preserved, including the isolation cells for restless bulls.
